Flare Revolver. A classic wild west revolver modified to shoot fireballs. —Trader description

The flaregun revolver is a slow-firing, moderate damage DLC pistol for the firebug, which launches flares that ignite zeds on contact and have a small explosion (unknown if the explosion does explosive damage or simply more fire). It weighs the same as a 44Mag, and Mk23, and can be dual-wielded, though with the high recoil this is questionably useful. One can be carried with the Mac-10 and Flamethrower, or duals can be used with the Husk gun or Trenchgun and Mac-10, allowing the firebug a greater number of fire-based weapons in one loadout.

The firebug perk gives discounts and bonuses to the flare pistol.

Level  Discount Price Sale value Damage
Base 0% £500 £375 25
0 10% £450 £337 26
1 20% £400 £299 27
2 30% £350 £262 30
3 40% £300 £224 32
4 50% £250 £187 35
5 60% £200 £149 37
6 70% £150 £112 40
Damage does not include after burn damage.

The flare pistol launches flares that do moderate damage and causes specimens to set on fire, dealing additional damage over time. However, at low levels of firebug, it is possible to cause self harm with the weapon by setting yourself on fire. This can be caused by opening fire on specimens at too short range. Due to the nature of the weapon, it is ill advised to use it against Husks, who have 75% fire damage resistance and is generally ineffective against Scrakes and Fleshpounds at higher difficulties.

Advantages and disadvantages

  • Lightweight;
  • Ignites enemies, causing damage over time and sometimes stunning them;
  • Can be dual-wielded;
  • Cheap ammo;
  • Cheap backup weapon for a high-level Firebug.

  • Use at short range can cause self-damage without the Firebug perk;
  • Mediocre damage output against a single enemy;
  • Small magazine of only 6 rounds;
  • Requires frequent reloading;
  • High recoil;
  • Flares are rather slow and can obscure vision.

  • Setting the Patriarch on fire helps a great deal with hunting him down when he tries to flee and heal up. Commandos don't need any help to see the Patriarch of course, but everybody else will get four or five extra seconds of visibility. This can make all the difference.
